Week 2 Assignment

This is a Cameo Shot, where the subject is in focus and there is a neutral background.

This is a Close Shot, where the subject is visible from the waist up.

This is a Full Shot, where the subject is visible from head to toe.

This is a High Angle Shot, where the subject is filmed from the top.

This could be an Establishing Shot, a long shot of a setting used to make a mood.

This is a Reaction Shot, used to closely film a subject's reaction to an event.

This is a Close up, which is an isolated shot of an object.

This is an Extreme Long Shot, in which a subject or setting can be viewed from a distance.

This is a Dolly Shot, where the camera moves along a set path.

This is a Tilt Shot, where the camera moves from bottom to top.

This is a Boom Shot and Over the Shoulder Shot, where the camera angle and positioning changes between shots, to where the camera shows us the characters point of view with the shoulder and head of the person still in view.

This is a Two Shot, in which two subjects are seen in a medium shot to film a conversation.

If I were to do this assignment again, I would make sure I film all of the shots with the same orientation, because even though it seems like that should go without saying it is not easy to remember which way to hold the camera when you are focused on what is on the screen.

  1. I liked the extreme long shot. It made me feel disconnected from the subject. The shot made me curious about what Cooper was feeling. I also liked the boom shot. It made me feel like I was in the hallway and involved in the action.

  2. The establishing shot was impressive. I could see how it would be used to set the tone for the beginning of a movie. I liked the close up shot because I could see the water fountain in the foreground and the rest of the background was blurred out. It made me feel like the fountain was significant in the clip.

  3. The two shot was an interesting shot. It was close enough to show the emotions of both characters and far enough to convey the conversation fluently. The reaction shot was good too. I liked it because its close enough to show your full reaction, and centers on your reaction rather than the scary scene off camera.

  4. The establishing shot was great, it showed what happens inside the classroom and the setting the characters are in. The cameo was good and can be used in a movie to show a characters individual opinion on something, where the character is alone with the camera.

  5. I found the cameo shot really intriguing and made me really think. The reaction shot was great and would make an audience laugh. The dolly shot was well put together and puts a very dark and scary scene. The extreme long shot made me feel distant from the subject.

  6. The cameo shot of cooper is very direct and straight to the point. It somewhat seems professional like an interview. I really enjoyed this shot. It was well shot and was very appropriate to describe this camera angle.

  7. This tilt shot is very dramatic and somewhat mysterious. I feel as if this shot could be used in a horror movie when exposing the monster or antagonist. I enjoyed how this was shot very slowly, it added nice emphasis to the fact that it was a TILT shot.

    1. This extreme long shot of cooper gives off a dark and yet again mysterious vibe. The bright yet dimness vibe/effect from the school lights make it seem like it is night time in this video, and sometimes makes the viewer ask "what is someone doing in a highschool that late?". I liked the distance cooper was from the camera and how the scene was busy, and not just of cooper himself.

  9. This high angle shot from the ceiling is very unique. For a high angle shot, most people focused on following the main character, or having them speak into the camera. I feel like this low-key video camera angle shot of cooper was much more interesting.

  10. The high angle shot was very unique. It provided an interesting way of conveying what the subject was doing. The dolly shot was very ominous, the weird lighting captured in it and increasing speed of the camera made it seem like something out of a horror movie. I found your tilt shot interesting because your feet were visible at the start of it before it moved this almost made the shot seem also like a pov shot. The establishing shot was very good it captured not only a setting but a mood, as the classroom seemed very loud and wild for the shot.
